A bit about us
The Last Straw is a campaign to reduce the use of the plastic straws in venues around India. We aim to tackle the issue from both sides- encouraging consumers to use less plastic straws and encouraging businesses to give out less straws through staff training and information.
Tackling big issues like waste require small stepping stones. When you think about it, we really do not need straws. It’s what we want. It’s the easiest thing to avoid; yet it’s the 11th most found ocean trash in 2017. They get stuck in the nostrils of sea turtles, their chemicals leach into the soil in which our food is grown.
But on the other hand, how can I drink my tender coconut or juice while moving without it spilling on me? Straws are convenient.
What can be used instead?
The Last Straw is about changing the culture around unnecessary plastic straw use, from consumers to eateries. This is more than a trend. This a permanent and intentional move to shift our lifestyle to match our beliefs. At The Last Straw, we believe that it makes no sense to continue to use plastic straws at the volume we do, and that big change can be made through small everyday actions driven by you.
What can you do?
1. Refuse a plastic straw or order your drink without a straw next time you go out.
2. If you're super keen, get involved and do presentations and schools, colleges to get more people involved or speak to your eatery to get involved! Write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
