Your Purchases Fuel Our Forests | International Day of Forests

International Day of Forests is celebrated each year on March 21st. It spotlights the crucial role forests play in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem. Forests provide a habitat for diverse wildlife while acting as a carbon sink, helping mitigate climate change.

At Bare Necessities, we are committed to leveraging our platform for creating positive change. As part of this, we recognise the integral role that forests play in biodiversity conservation. We contribute to reforestation efforts through our partnership with Maruvan, a reforestation organisation dedicated to bring back native forests in the Marwar region

Maruvan is on a focussed mission to restore the native forests of the Marwar region through the Miyawaki method to create diverse, lush forest patches. The Miyawaki method is known for its effectiveness in fast tracking reforestation. The process involves planting a variety of native species to create a dense and self-sustaining forest ecosystem.

Through our partnership with Maruvan, Bare Necessities is funding a dedicated grove that has become a sanctuary for biodiversity. This grove is supported through donation from our customers and plays an integral role in expanding a thriving mini forest ecosystem. With your help, we have been able to foster a biodiverse green haven. So this International Day of Forests pat yourself on the back for having positively contributed to this wonderful patch! Here are the recent updates from Maruvan.

The last year, 2024, has been a particularly extraordinary year for Maruvan, which began with a monsoon season that broke 40 year rainfall records. The abundance of rain has resulted in flourishing forest patches. The team has meticulously created earthworks and ponds over the years, which are now abundant with water, thereby supporting natural forest regeneration. Improved soil quality has reduced salinity and as a result has attracted diverse wildlife that include rare species of wildlife.

Since January 2022, our efforts at Maruvan have seen significant progress. Over 110 seedlings have been planted, complemented by numerous shrubs and grasses propagated through natural seed dispersal.

The Bare Patch is home to some lovely plant species such as Shankhpushpi, Kummat, Peelu, Purslane and more!

In 2023, a small sitting area was created in the middle of the Bare Patch, which is utilised by village children for activities of the school.

In the last year, the ecosystem has seen unique visitors such as cobras, vipers, peacocks, wild boars and deer, adding to the vitality of a revived ecosystem
