Crans N' Roses is a sulphate-free natural shampoo bar for dry, damaged and flaky scalps — a powerful blend of cranberry extract, panthenol, hydrolysed oat protein and algae extract that cleanses, repairs and strengthens hair from root to tip.

Mild coconut-derived surfactants gently remove dirt, oil and product buildup without stripping your scalp's natural oils. Cacao butter and sodium lactate lock in moisture, reducing frizz and dryness. Panthenol (Vitamin B5) and hydrolysed oat protein work together to repair damaged strands, reduce breakage and improve elasticity. Cranberry extract delivers antioxidant protection while rose and lemon essential oils give it an aromatherapeutic fragrance that makes every wash feel like a ritual.

How to use

Wet your hair thoroughly. Rub the bar directly onto your scalp and hair or lather between your palms first. Massage gently into the scalp and through the lengths. Rinse thoroughly with water.

Store on a well-draining soap dish between uses — keeping it dry extends the bar's life significantly. Each bar gives 30-50 washes depending on hair thickness and length.

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSA) — both coconut-derived and significantly milder than the SLS found in most conventional shampoos. SLSA is often confused with harsh SLS but they are completely different. Safe for daily use and colour-treated hair.

What makes Crans N' Roses different from regular shampoo?

It's sulphate-free, paraben-free, vegan and comes in a plastic-free bar format. No SLS, no harsh synthetic detergents, no plastic bottle. The formula combines repair ingredients like panthenol and oat protein with antioxidant cranberry extract — a level of hair care you rarely find in a shampoo bar.

Is it really sulphate-free?

Yes. We use Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate — both mild, coconut-derived cleansers. SLSA is frequently confused with harsh SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) but they are completely different ingredients. SLS is a strong synthetic detergent that strips natural oils. SLSA is coconut-derived, significantly milder and doesn't penetrate skin. Safe for sensitive scalps and daily use.

I see "Cetyl Alcohol" in the ingredients — is that drying?

Not at all. Despite the name, Cetyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol derived from coconut or palm oil — completely different from drying alcohols like isopropyl or ethanol. It actually acts as a gentle emollient and thickener that softens and conditions hair. A very common ingredient in clean beauty formulations.

What does "Behentrimonium Methosulfate" mean — is it safe?

Yes — it's a plant-derived conditioning agent typically from rapeseed oil. Despite the long name it's considered one of the safest conditioning agents available and is widely used in natural and clean beauty as a gentler alternative to harsher conditioning chemicals. It's what helps detangle and soften hair.

Is Butylene Glycol natural?

Butylene Glycol is a synthetic humectant — it draws moisture into the hair and skin. It's not coconut-derived but it is considered safe by all major regulatory bodies and is widely accepted in clean beauty formulations. We include it because it's effective and skin-safe, not because it's natural.

What does panthenol do for hair?

Panthenol is Vitamin B5 — it penetrates the hair shaft, improves moisture retention, adds shine and helps repair damaged strands from within. One of the most effective and well-researched hair repair ingredients available.

What does hydrolysed oat protein do?

It strengthens hair by filling in gaps in the hair shaft, reducing breakage, improving elasticity and making hair more resistant to damage over time. Completely natural — derived from oats.

Is the preservative system natural?

Yes — we use Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid and Sorbic Acid. These are all naturally occurring — benzyl alcohol is found in many plants, salicylic acid comes from willow bark and sorbic acid from rowan berries. A much cleaner preservative system than parabens.

Is it safe for colour-treated hair?

Yes — sulphate-free, gentle cleansers won't strip hair colour the way SLS-based shampoos do. Safe for coloured, chemically-treated and keratin-treated hair

Yes — 100% vegan and cruelty-free. No animal-derived ingredients.

How do I use a shampoo bar?

Wet your hair thoroughly. Either rub the bar directly onto your scalp and hair or lather between your palms first. Massage gently into the scalp and through the lengths. Rinse thoroughly.

How many washes does one bar give?

50-70 washes depending on hair thickness and length. Fine or short hair will get closer to 70. Thick or long hair closer to 50.

How do I make it last longer?

Store on a well-draining soap dish between uses. Keeping the bar dry between washes is the single most important thing you can do to extend its life. Never leave it sitting in water.

Do I still need conditioner?

Many people find they don't need a separate conditioner after switching to Crans N' Roses thanks to the cacao butter and conditioning agents in the formula. If your hair is very dry or damaged we recommend pairing with our Love is in the (h)air Conditioner Bar for best results.

Can I use it daily?

Yes — the gentle sulphate-free formula is safe for daily use without over-stripping the scalp.

Is there a transition period when switching from liquid shampoo?

Some people experience a short adjustment period of 1-2 weeks when switching to a shampoo bar as the scalp recalibrates its oil production. This is completely normal and temporary.

How much plastic does this eliminate?

One 85g bar replaces 1-2 full plastic shampoo bottles. Over a year that's up to 24 plastic bottles per person eliminated from landfill.

Is the packaging compostable?

Yes — fully compostable packaging. When the bar is done compost the wrapping in your home compost bin. Nothing goes to landfill.

Is the bar itself biodegradable?

Yes — all ingredients are plant-derived and biodegradable. Safe for greywater and septic systems.
