From Greenwashing to Genuine – How to Spot Truly Sustainable Brands

We currently find ourselves in a world where “eco-friendly” claims are tossed across every other label. Sometimes, we stop and think how genuine they are. It’s becoming harder to tell which brands are actually walking the talk and which ones are simply greenwashing. So how do you cut through the noise and choose brands that truly care about the planet?

What’s Greenwashing?

Greenwashing is when brands use misleading claims, vague buzzwords such as all natural, green, eco-conscious or clever packaging to appear sustainable, without making real environmental efforts.

How to Spot a Truly Sustainable Brand?

  • Transparency: Look for brands that openly share their sourcing, production methods and impact. No vague promises, just facts. At Bare Necessities, we share not just our ingredients, but also about our people, processes and packaging.

  • Packaging: That Walks the Talk: Is the packaging refillable, compostable or truly recyclable? If it’s single use plastic labeled “green”, take a closer look. Our compostable sachets, glass dispensers and reusable tins are built to stay in the loop

  • Certifications: Third party certifications such as Fair Trade, PETA, B Corp, ECOCERT, etc., show a level of accountability. We back our claims with responsible sourcing and ethical employment, rigorously vetted by third party certifications such as PETA and B Corp

Being a conscious consumer doesn’t mean being perfect, it quite simply, means being informed. The next time you’re shopping, ask: is this brand being authentic or just a marketing gimmick?
