Power Your Home Sustainably | Bare Necessities at IKEA

Bare Necessities was back at IKEA with an exciting series of workshops! In line with this year’s World Earth Day theme: Our Power, Our Planet, the chosen topic this time around was energy saving methods. These workshops, held across three IKEA locations in India, namely, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai, sparked engaging discussions, brought in tons of energy saving tips and made sustainability more accessible!
Beyond just a generic talk about energy saving, we made sure to tailor the content to each of the cities, highlighting city specific trends and facts.
Did you know…..
-
Bangalore boasts the most electric vehicle charging points in the country?
-
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway station generates over 1MW of power.
-
The Secunderabad Railway Station boasts the world's largest rooftop solar power installation.
These facts set the stage for a relevant discussion on how each city sources its power. Bangalore’s energy mix is largely dependent on renewable sources, making it a more sustainable city in terms of power than the other two. We took customers through energy consumption patterns in their homes, with electric cookware and multiple devices now guzzling up a significant portion of power.
We ensure our workshops are interactive and this was no exception. It allowed participants to pitch in their own energy saving ideas, fostering a community driven learning experience. The session ended with a hands-on DIY project: a solar powered oven made from an IKEA kitchen storage box! It was fun, creative and everyone enjoyed the process of building their own eco-friendly solar oven.
Packed with so many facts and takeaways, this workshop wasn’t just a learning experience, but a chance to power up the planet sustainably, one small change at a time!
