10 Ways Bare Necessities is making your Home Sustainable

10 Ways Bare Necessities is making your Home Sustainable

At Bare Necessities, we are committed to making sustainable accessible and seamlessly a part of your everyday life. From the time that you wake up to the time that you head to bed, our products are designed to keep you sustainable all day long!

Here are 10 ways we’re making your home more sustainable, while helping you lead a cleaner, greener life

  1. Circular Products:

Our concept is based on the idea of a circular economy. Our products are designed using tenets of a circular economy. They are made to be reused, repurposed or composted, leaving no negative impact on the planet.

We sell you the actual concentrate of the products, without all the liquids, thereby championing retail efficiency and avoiding the transport of bulky liquids. This is exemplified in our shampoo and conditioner bars and our powder-to-liquid home care range.

These leave no trace behind, significantly reducing the burden on landfills and ensuring nothing goes to waste.

  1. High Quality Ingredients meets Effective In-House Formulations

We’re super choosy about ingredients and where they come from. We carefully analyse and select high quality, natural ingredients such as mango seed butter, shea butter, jojoba oil, apricot oil, among others, ensuring each product is effective, luxurious and nourishing. Our products are formulated in-house, allowing us to exercise a greater degree of attention to quality checks and mindful formulations in alignment with sustainable practices. These plant based ingredients are testament to show that healthy skin can be achieved without harming the planet.

  1. Minimalist Products that are Multi-Use!

One of the simplest ways to reduce waste is by choosing products that are versatile and long lasting. Our moisturiser for example, is enriched with so many natural, effective ingredients, a little truly goes a long way! Plus, it can be doubled up as a hand and foot cream too! Our lip balms last close to a year and can be used on our cuticles and on the back of your elbows and knees to keep them nourished.

Multi-use products are innately less wasteful, so you can reduce the number of items in your home while still meeting your requirements.

  1. Zero Waste Packaging:

If you were to walk into a landfill today, one of the most common items you can observe is personal care and beauty items. Packaging related waste is truly one of the biggest contributors to our current waste epidemic.

In response to this crisis, we are dedicated to eliminating that packaging waste by offering zero waste packaging for our products. From offering compostable sachets and soap wrappers to infinitely reusable glass jars for moisturiser and lip balms and refillable aluminium tins for our deodorants, we’ve completely eliminated single use plastic. You can now enjoy your favourite products guilt free, knowing that we’ve done our part in reducing packaging waste.

  1. Adherence to Esteemed Third Party Certifications

We are proud to be the first FMCG Company in India to achieve the esteemed B Corp Certification, a distinction that recognises companies meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. As a B Corp Company, we are held to rigorous standards across every area of our business from how we source ingredients to how we treat our employees and suppliers. We are a business with a purpose committed to create positive change for the planet and its people.

At Bare Necessities, we take ethical sourcing and product testing very seriously. We’re PETA Certified, reflective of our products that are 100% vegan and cruelty free. No animals are harmed in the making of our products and our ingredients are carefully selected.

  1. Sustainability Learning

We understand that sustainability cannot be achieved overnight, it’s a journey and we’re here to help guide you every step of the way. We observed that there was a lacuna with regard to sustainability education in India and we created sustainability learning material in the form of our online courses. Our sustainability education, Bare Learning, is UNESCO Certified as a Climate Action Resource and seeks to empower you with the knowledge to build a more sustainable life. It’s about creating a long team, meaningful change, together!

  1. Supporting Local Communities

It’s super important for us to take people along the journey and we deem it important to support the people who make it possible. We’re proud to be associated with our donation partners, Maruvan and Hasiru Dala. These organisations work tirelessly to demonstrate positive change on the planet and its people. Maruvan supports waste pickers by improving their livelihoods and Maruvan, a reforestation organisation is on a mission to afforest the Marwar region of Rajasthan.

Did you know that each time you purchase your Bare Goodies, you have an option to donate to these wonderful organisations? By contributing to these efforts, together, we are creating a community that supports sustainable practices and empowers other communities to thrive!

  1. Women leading the way

We are committed to creating stable green jobs, particularly for underserved communities.  Women from underserved communities handcraft our personal care products. We not only heavily focus on employing women, but provide them and their children with health insurance, helping each of them with financial inclusion. Furthermore, we are committed to constantly upskill the women through additional skill training, workshops and computer courses among others.

  1. The 4th R at Bare - Return & Refill

Our ‘Return Your Jars & Tins’ program for our customers is designed for sustainability. Our glass jars and tins are examples of packaging that is infinitely reusable. As and when customers accumulate over 5 Bare Glass Jars or 10 Tins, they can be returned to us using a simple form on our website

Our refill program is an example of a refill economy in action. Customers can bring their own containers or use our glass jars and customers can fill in their product of choice and pay by the weight of the product alone!

  1. Ethical Supply Chain
