Tackling the Waste Crisis with IKEA Workshops!

We’re excited to share about another super special collaboration with IKEA, where we held a series of Zero Waste Living Workshops across Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai. 

A zero waste lifestyle is a solution that has stemmed as  a feasible response to the concerning global garbage crisis and more specifically India’s ever-growing waste problem. Did you know that the world discards a whopping 2.12 billion tons of waste every year? And if we were to zoom in further to look at the India picture, then India alone generates solid waste of approximately 160 thousand tonnes per day! 

Against this backdrop, these workshops are aimed to empower IKEA customers to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle. 

Zero waste living is a topic that we are deeply passionate about, speaking about it at different forums and offering solutions that will enable more eco-enthusiasts to adopt a low waste lifestyle. The interesting part of the concept lies in the versatility of it. A concept that encompasses various aspects of life from kitchen to shower routines to hosting events, thereby operating like a broader umbrella to reduce one’s environmental footprint. 

Customising the workshop to each city’s issue that plague it, our interactive sessions tackled a wide range of topics from practical household waste reduction to creative solutions to shop sustainably. We debunked many of the common myths surrounding waste segregation and offered a plethora of solutions, thereby nudging participants to make real environmental changes. By offering both individual and community led solutions, we were collectively able to brainstorm novel ways to tackle the waste crisis. 

The enthusiasm of the participants is very infectious, prodding us as hosts to share slightly advanced zero waste tips that would have long term benefits. With this being our third workshop at IKEA now, we have been seeing familiar faces, including a 70-year-old eco warrior, who has the best eco-tips to share! It is reflective of the growing desire for sustainability, inspiring us to do better for the planet each day. 

The collaboration between IKEA and Bare Necessities demonstrates the power of joint efforts. Alongside IKEA’s commitment to nurture an eco-conscious community by offering accessible products that can help make the transition to zero waste living, it proves that small actions as consumers can lead to significant impact.
