Sustainable Future starts young | Workshops for kids
At Bare Necessities, we strongly believe that hands-on learning is one of the most effective ways to inspire sustainable change. Therefore, we have always pushed for sustainability awareness workshops along with our product offerings.
Recently, we had the opportunity to host an engaging workshop focussed on zero waste living. While we have been offering this for many years now, what made this particularly special was that it was hosted at our office space for school kids.
Young students are critical to push any larger movement as they are thought leaders in their homes, starting conversations around critical topics.
The workshop was designed to educate the students about the importance of zero waste practices, taking them through the waste cycle and how it eventually contributes to the global garbage crisis. In response to this, zero waste living is the biggest lifestyle change that one can make lasting, sustained change. We highlighted various zero waste practices that can be easily implemented in daily life and that significantly contribute to mitigating larger waste crises from blowing up further.
We spoke about several brands that are making strides in zero waste living, basing their design ideas around principles of circular economy. These brands are testament to that fact innovation can be wired to minimise waste and promote sustainability through their offerings. By showcasing such forward thinking brands, we can see students look to support, engage and think in this direction to push the needle towards musing over lasting positive change.
Something unique that we did this time around was taking the students through our office to explain our on site waste management practices. Our office has informative signages throughout the premises.
To compost our biodegradable waste, we use Daily Dump’s Khamba. For other items such as cardboard boxes, HDPE containers and aluminium cans, we ensure responsible disposal by handing them over to a composter. We also keep a close eye on the waste we generate by tracking and monitoring it on a monthly basis.
To wrap up the workshop, we conducted a hands-on DIY session, where the students learned to make their own coffee body scrub. This activity is the perfect example of the circular economy in action, as we make it using used coffee grounds, typically a waste product, to create a valuable, usable product. The students were super thrilled to make their scrubs from scratch and took their little creations back home as souvenirs.
We host a wide range of workshops around topics of sustainability for diverse audiences from children to corporate teams and community groups. Hit us up on info@barenecessities.in to learn more about offerings.
